Mother's day according to Joseph Rutherford
by opusdei1972 inthis is what the second president of the watchtower society, the channel of god appointed in 1919, wrote about the mother's day:.
satan would turn the people away from this beautiful symbol, and therefore from god, and cause them to disregard the word of the lord.
this he does in a very subtle way by organizing what in england and in america, the chief countries of christendom, is called "mother's day".

Should the Governing Body have a retirement age cut off?
by Brokeback Watchtower inas a corporation the ceos/gb need to be in good mental shape to make important business decisions in order to keep this company afloat financially.
the currant policy is that they keep the office for life no matter how mentally they are unfit to make good decisions.. if you ask me 70 should be the absolute maximum age that they can stay on the gb.
i guess once a faithful and discreet slave always a faithful and discreet slave.

Anyone Know what happened to the Video that's brought down many JWs to Ex-JW land?
by PokerPlayerPhil ini've been looking for a video done by someone who shows the warning by jesus saying "if anyone comes to you and say's "the appointed time is near" you are to run from them!
two people who left the watchtower said this has been one of the most powerful videos to get inside the heads of really smart elders and witnesses that don't come the regular way.. the gist of the video is the watchtower wrote a book called "the appointed time is near" and this goes against everything jesus christ warned people.
the problem with the watchtower's followers is they need "omens", "portents", "signs" to keep their followers following along their path lead by that dried up old carrot (the end) or (the appointed time).

What would you do?
by Esse quam videri inhere is the scenario.. 1 - a person has access to an item that only they see the value in but could have tremendous value to the right buyer.. 2 - the item belongs to another person.. 3 - if the item disappeared, the owner would never miss it.. 4 - if the potential value of the item was pointed out to the owner, they would never believe it.. 5 - the owner would never pursue sale of the item.. 6 - the value to the owner would be about 100 dollars.. my question:.
what would you do in a situation where you could possibly make a great deal of money from selling such an item, possibly millions of dollars?.

Buy it!
Good suggestion, but people are funny.
If the original owner was told that this item could be extremely valuable to the right buyer, they would just laugh. If you bought it for $100 and then sold it for a huge profit, what would they then say? Would they come after you for the money? What then, a lawsuit? Would you have to document everything on paper to protect yourself? You could give someone twice what they think it is worth, sell it for a profit, and then they come after you, saying you swindled them.
Money makes people do strange things. Just look at Stephen Lett and his May broadcast.

behind the curtain: literature offer for the month
by Magnum ini was an extremely sincere, zealous pioneer.

So a conscientious JW prepares their presentation for Sunday afternoon field service, organizes their busy life around that important event, travels to the field service arrangement, pairs off with someone who maybe has prepared the same way or maybe is just out to 'get some time in', gets into some car or van stuffed with other JW's and their book bags, gets out of the vehicle, walks up some avenue, traipsing up and down sidewalks and stairs, knocks on numerous doors and gets either, 'not at homes', indifference, or outright hostility from the 'householders'.
Then, finally someone comes to the door that is willing to listen, actually wants to hear a message and needs some 'guiding direction' in their life and the JW offers them some out-of-date, old light/changed light/ remnant of 144,000/faithful and discreet slave/Cedar Point Ohio Convention/1919/1914/1975 crap.

Implications of Dropping "Types/Anti-Types"
by Antioch ini've seen this part of the agm folded in with other topics and poked around, but no really critical discussion of the implications.. .
the hermenuetics of the type/anti-type practice was a big deal to me in realizing the tatt.
i searched high and low for a rational basis for concluding that god was communicating in a type/anti-type format that wasn't special pleading and circular.
